Karl J. Kuerner: Art Spirit in Agrarian Art

April 22- July 26, 2020

At present, this exhibition is opening virtually. Images of the artworks and exhibition commentary in part will be made available digitally.

Robert Henri (1865-1929) wrote a famous book, The Art Spirit, which has inspired generations of artists across the world. One such artist of a Pennsylvania farming lineage has assembled a body of work to reflect on his own process and inspirations. Karl J. Kuerner of the famous Kuerner Farm in Chadds Ford, Penn. (where generations of Wyeths have painted) brings to Nebraska an exhibition of his deeply introspective images of farm life.

Kuerner explains that in Henri’s The Art Spirit he has found a comradery and connection to his own yearnings to paint what is so deeply meaningful to him. The heritage of the multi-generational farm in the Brandywine is where he is most at home. His paintings absorb a passion for the people who have given that place so much meaning.

Until the museum is able to be open for in-person visiting, check out this video.

Support for this exhibition is made in part by the Nebraska Arts Council.
